My Nickname

I seriously so tired and can't think of anything to talk about tonight so this is when we get really random ;)

Tonight a story from the life of Anna...

When I was a wee child my mother wanted to call me Annie. I would always say "No! my name Anna!" So the nickname never stuck. It was my fathers turn to try a nickname. He would call me Anna Lynnster, then it morphed to Anna Lynster Finster. Then just Finster, now its Finst.
For some reason I let it stick. Its the strangest nickname to try to explain when said in public. I've had people stare at me like "really? you named your child Finst?" (Sorry if any of you out there are really named finst.)
But at least i've got a nickname right? but no one may call me that besides my father!

Whats your strangest nickname? Comment below!

Poor Ummy

Tonights post is about my cat. His name is Ummy, and he is actually quite well known by a lot of you. He has the reputation of being scary or mean, but really he is just a big grumpy baby.

A few days ago he came home with a big wad of his fur torn out from behind his ear. We took him to the vet and they found a big open wound. This wasn't very surprising because just a few days before he had come in with a few tufts of fur pulled out on top of his head and another cats claw stuck in it.

Now he wears a cone of shame. We all signed it like a cast. I've been calling him space cat because it looks like he is wearing a satellite. He is the most pitiful thing ever. He isn't a very loud cat but these past couple of days he has been locked inside and he is constantly crying at the door to be let out (I think its to go see his girl friend the pink panther and avenge himself on the rival ginger boy cat.)
Even more pitifully when he tries to clean himself his tongue doesn't reach outside the cone so he is just licking the inside of the cone :P its hard to watch.

Voldemort is Hitler

Last year I finally finished the Harry Potter series! While reading the books I kept finding comparisons between Voldemort and Hitler. YUP. Here are some of my thoughts...

a Specific group of people are targeted by hypocritical bad guy
- Muggles and Mudbloods targeted by Voldemort (who is a mudblood).
Jews targeted by Hitler (who had jewish ancestry)

Both...
- Took over the government.
- has a loyal group of followers who shared their vision for the "Ideal world."

group had well known and feared name for said followers. “Death Eaters” or "Nazis"

Groups also had people who only followed because of fear.

Their justification for doing what they did was because of "superiority"

So ya, now you know the truth. Voldemort is Hitler. I'll let you decide what you do with this information.

Writing Tips: Character Hacks

Writing tip! When you get stuck with a character or they just don't feel right maybe its because you've only developed them to fit the context of your current plot line. A way to escape this and make them feel like more round characters is to do this...

Write out 20 things NO ONE KNOWS (or will ever know in the context of your story) about your character.
I did this with a lot of my characters from one of my books and it really helped. It also gave me great ideas pertaining to my current story.

Here is my example:
20 Things NO ONE KNOWS About Kai

  1. he is a morning person.
  2. he loves the color pink. Not for clothes or anything like that, but he loves the pink in sunsets and sunrises.
  3. if he could fight, his weapon of choice would be broadswords.
  4. he is very ticklish. Especially in the ribs and the soles of his feet.
  5. when he was small he used to love to whittle sticks. He still does from time to time.
  6. he was a very small child, at twelve he was sure Moana would pass him in height.
  7. he always wanted a pet squirrel. He would think about it riding on his shoulder and they would climb trees together.
  8. he has had jobs as a millers, butchers, bakers, and carpenters assistant.
  9. once he beat up another brown eyes boy for making fun of Moana. He was sent to the stalks because of it. But was released do to a word from the empress.
  10. he is known in the fields for being the first one up and working in the morning.
  11. he has spent many nights working secretly in various shops after curfew for extra money.
  12. he has horrible hand eye coordination.
  13. he often has dreams about flying out of the Oasis, but always ends in him falling back down.
  14. Kai is a good looking kid who has has the option to have a romance but has always steered away from them because it would distract from his family. Even though his family is always encouraging him to find a girl.
  15. When Kai was fourteen he fell from a tree and broke his leg. He refused to let anyone but his sister touch it. This was her first heal. She still says that he fell on purpose to give her the motivation to use her magic. Because of the fall he still has a slight limp from time to time.
  16. Kai is the spitting image of his father.
  17. he is a quick witted risk taker.
  18. he is completely tone deaf, he is a horrible singer, the opposite of his mother and sister.

  19. if he had his own business he would want to run the library.
  20. He, according to his mother; was the loudest baby, the shyest toddler, the grumpiest child, the most outgoing preteen, and the most reserved teen.

BONUS TIP! For you who made it all the way to the end of this post here is another tip. Find a picture to represent your character then photo shop in words and phrases that define or describe them.

The Temple

Just a little reminder tonight about how important the temple is and that we should always have it in our minds as our destination.

William Adolphe Bouguereau's Art

One of my favorite painters is William Adolphe Bouguereau. He was a French artist who lived from 1825-1905.

I really like his work because it stands out as very different from the rest of the art that was being made around this time period. So many paintings were so stiff and no one really seemed real, if you know what I mean. He painted a lot of children and every one seems genuine like he really captured the personality of each child.

This is a self portrait.

I first learned about him when I was in Italy. This painting of his below was being solid on the streets everywhere!

I really love this one. Its commonly known as "The First Kiss". It's of Cupid and Psyche :)

I highly recommend looking up more of his art (though I should warn you he also does nudes (one of his most famous is "The Birth of Venus")
